Udvarthanam

It is one among the rare and special treatments of Kerala. In this treatment, lukewarm herbal oils are applied all over the body by two to four trained therapists in a special rhythmic way continuously for about 45 minutes per day for a period of 7 to 21 days. This treatment is very useful for Rheumatic diseases like arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia, paraplegia, sexual weakness and nervous disorders etc.

The body is forcefully massaged during Udvarthanam by the therapist using warm herbal powders, often derived from dried herbs, grains, and pulses. In opposition to the natural direction of hair development, the massage is applied in upward strokes. The powders aid in lymphatic system stimulation, blood circulation improvement, and skin exfoliation.
